Sodium nitrate is a chemical compound with the formula NaNO3. It is an alkali metal nitrate salt and is also known as Chile saltpeter. This mineral is also known as nitratine, nitrate, or soda niter. Sodium nitrate is found in large deposits in Chile and is used to distinguish it from ordinary saltpeter and potassium nitrate.

Applications
Sodium nitrate is a water-soluble form of nitrogen primarily used in fertilizers.
It is prevalent to use in developing countries since it does not change the soil’s pH level.
Another excellent use for sodium nitrate is in explosives, which work well with ammonium nitrate.
The thermal stability of molten sodium nitrate and potassium nitrate solutions is sound, up to 600 degrees Celsius. This makes it useful for metals that need to be heat-treated and for solar energy storage applications.
Sodium nitrate, or NaNO3, is a food additive and preservative used as an oxidizer in fireworks and instant cold packs.
It is also a component of some solar power plants, which helps transfer and store heat.
In order to promote the growth of Nitrosomonas bacteria, this compound is added to the wastewater in several wastewater treatment plants.
