Soda ash, otherwise known as sodium carbonate, is a super versatile product that is used across many industries. It’s a white, odorless powder made from sodium salts. And, its unique characteristics make it a very important ingredient for all sorts of things – starting from household items to industrial processes. In simple terms – soda ash is a highly pure form of sodium carbonate. There are 3 grades available in soda ash: washing soda, light soda ash, and dense soda ash. Their chemical properties are identical, differing only in physical characteristics.

- Density: 2.54 grams per cubic centimeter at 25°C
- Molar mass: 106 grams per mole for anhydrous soda ash, 286.14 grams per mole for the decahydrate
- pH: About 11
- Alkaline: Yes, acts as a strong base and antacid
